Government Agencies
Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC)
http://www.cdc.gov
In an effort to prevent adolescent pregnancy, the CDC has developed
surveillance, behavioral research, and demonstration projects as well as 13
community partnerships in 11 states that implement comprehensive,
integrated youth programs.
Office of Population Affairs (OPA)
http://opa.osophs.dhhs.gov
The Office of Population Affairs, within the Office of Public Health
and Science of the Department of Health and Human Services, provides resources
and policy advice on population, family planning, reproductive health, and
adolescent pregnancy issues.
The OPA has developed the Title X program which supports grants to provide comprehensive family planning and reproductive health services—contraceptive services and supplies, basic gynecologic care, cancer and general medical screening, infertility services, education, and counseling and referrals—to all persons who want them.
They have also developed the Title XX program which supports grants for demonstration projects that: 1) develop innovative programs to provide health, education and social services to pregnant and parenting adolescents, their infants, male partners, and their families; and 2) develop and test programs for preadolescents, adolescents (males and females), and their families to delay the onset of adolescent sexual activity and thus reduce the incidence of pregnancy and STD infection.
