In 1991, SIECUS instituted a grassroots constituency comprised of professionals and activists to respond to attacks on sexual health and sexual rights. The rapidly growing group of 3,000 individuals from all 50 states receive a publication titled The Advocates Report. The complimentary newsletter keeps them up-to-date on critical federal and state developments in the areas of comprehensive sexuality education; reproductive rights; lesbian, gay, and bisexual rights; HIV/AIDS education and prevention; and censorship of sexually-themed materials and media. When immediate action is required to educate the Administration, Congress, and state legislators, Action Alerts are quickly sent to produce hundreds of letters, phone calls, and faxes. Advocates can also be invaluable during local controversies surrounding sexuality education in the schools.
