New York, NY - The Board of Directors of the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the U.S. (SIECUS) is pleased to announce that we have appointed Joseph DiNorcia, Jr. as SIECUS' President and CEO. Joseph has earned the respect and admiration of staff and Board and we have great confidence in his ability to build on the legacy of SIECUS' predecessors and take the agency to its next level of excellence. Joseph sits firmly in the driver's seat, supported by an amazing senior management team that propels SIECUS' mission forward
Second only to our founder Dr. Mary Calderone, Joseph DiNorcia's tenure with SIECUS is longer than any current or former staff member. Joseph is that organizational visionary that builds enduring greatness through a paradoxical blend of personal humility and professional will. Joseph has the unique ability to put the mission and staff before himself; and is confident enough to share, if not give away, the spotlight when it best serves the agency. This quality, combined with his extensive experience both within SIECUS and in the leadership of other organizations, makes Joseph the ideal leader for SIECUS.
Joseph joined SIECUS in May of 1991 and has served as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer since 1997. In this role, Joseph has been responsible for all programmatic activities of the agency including the State and Community Advocacy Project, the School Health Project, the Family Project, the Mary S. Calderone Library, and the SIECUS Report, among others. Joseph has also been instrumental in developing and managing SIECUS' International Program and establishing SIECUS' DC-based Public Policy Office as an important voice in advocating for sexuality education, sexual health, and reproductive rights.
In his thirteen years at SIECUS, Joseph has overseen tremendous organizational growth. When he began, the agency had a budget of under $500,000 and just seven staff members. Today, SIECUS has a budget of over $2.7 million, employs 17 full-time staff members, and operates offices in both New York City and Washington, DC.
Prior to joining SIECUS, Joseph was the Vice President of Finance and Administration at the Intrepid Museum Foundation, a $5 million dollar, not-for-profit museum in New York City. He also worked for Outreach Project Inc., a non-profit drug and alcohol services organization that runs residential facilities for youth ages 17 and under who are drug or alcohol addicted as well as outpatient services for adults throughout New York.
We look forward to Joseph's leadership as SIECUS continues to be at the forefront of sexuality education, information, and policy.
