People around the world face unique political, economic, social, and cultural realities. Unfortunately, they too often share a common experience: a lack of information about sexuality, little access to sexual health services, and the denial of their sexual and reproductive rights. As a result, they are at unnecessary risk for exploitation, abuse, unintended pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases/infections, including HIV.
Policymakers, educators, parents, and other adults are responsible for providing the world's people with comprehensive information and services that support their sexual and reproductive health and rights.
SIECUS works to bring about the realization of these rights for all people, and, especially, for young people. We collaborate with local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) around the world to promote comprehensive sexual health programs, and provide technical assistance to advocates and educators. SIECUS partners with NGOs to develop country-specific guidelines for comprehensive sexuality education initiatives, advocates for sound public policies supporting sexuality education, and promotes sexual health and rights. We also monitor U.S. foreign policy that affects sexuality and reproductive health.
Through our newsletters and listservs, we strive to further communication efforts about sexuality education among professionals around the world.
SIECUS believes that in this age of information it is unacceptable that people throughout the world are still lacking the basic facts they need to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive lives. We hope that the resources here help you in your work to meet this need.
