Coming Soon: THE PENGUIN ATLAS OF HUMAN SEXUAL BEHAVIOR
Look out this summer for the first-ever world atlas of human sexual behavior with world maps of sexual health, behavior and trends. The atlas looks at the differences and similarities about sex and sexuality from country to country and between different cultures. Drawing on the most recent findings in biology, psychology, sexology and social anthropology, The Penguin Atlas of Human Sexual Behavior presents in graphic map format how far sexual practices and social attitudes are determined by nationality, ethnicity, and religion as well as by age and gender. It also compares human behavior with the sexual and reproductive patterns of other animals to illuminate the evolution of human characteristics. In addition to maps on sexual practices such as dating and adultery, sex laws, reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections, sexual violence, sex counseling, circumcision and female genital mutilation, and the economics of sex, the atlas also includes information on many controversial subjects such as censorship, the Internet and the future of sex up to the year 2050.
The atlas is by Dr Judith Mackay, who is based in Hong Kong and a senior policy advisor to the World Health Organization. Dr. Mackay also runs popular radio programs on sex and sexuality in Hong Kong. Dr. Mackay is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, and of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and of London.
