ACTION CENTER: Mexico City Ministerial Declaration “Educating to Prevent”
August 1, 2009 marks the first anniversary of the groundbreaking Mexico City Ministerial Declaration “Educating to Prevent.” This agreement took effect just prior to the XVII International AIDS Conference in Mexico City, laying the groundwork to support expanded access to quality comprehensive sexuality education and sexual and reproductive health services in Latin America and the Caribbean.
SIECUS, along with partners at the International Women’s Health Coalition (IWHC) and International Planned Parenthood/ Western Hemisphere Region (IPPF/WHR) have created resources to support members of civil society in their advocacy efforts regarding the Mexico City Ministerial Declaration. These materials offer guidance in how to support their governments in taking action and advancing the fulfillment of their agreements in this Declaration. This advocacy kit offers several tools for local partners to use to raise awareness about the Mexico City Ministerial Declaration “Educating to Prevent” and hold government officials accountable. We hope that these materials are helpful in your advocacy efforts.
